Self Publishing in Calgary? I think not.

I have a book for sale on Amazon @  https://www.amazon.ca/dp/1999442601  for $11.95. I think this is reasonable, but when Amazon adds their shipping costs, it becomes costly.  In order to save my customers money, I have been looking for a Print On Demand service in Calgary.   I have contacted several companies here for estimates, and have recieved back per copy prices ranging from $16-$29. What!? I cannot sell my little paperback book for those prices.    KDP's price for authors copies including shipping is $6.50/copy.   I recieved one quote that was below this price, but unfortunately, the minimum run I could do is 100 copies. I might be able to sell 100, but at this point I can't pay for them.   Maybe I should go to Staples and investigate building my own books. :) Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mjmauthor Blog: https://mjmpublishing.blogspot.com instagram @michael.mathison2

Book Publishing

Here is a letter that I recently sent out to a freind interested in publishing a book. 1. Get your manuscript together in either Word or Open Office. 2. Decide the size of book you want to produce. Fiction: 4.25" x 6.87", 5" x 8", 5.25" x 8", 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 9" Novella: 5" x 8" Children's: 7.5" x 7.5", 7" x 10", 10" x 8" Textbooks: 6" x 9", 7" x 10", 8.5" x 11" Non-fiction: 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 9", 7" x 10" Memoir: 5.25" x 8", 5.5" x 8.5" Photography: Whatever you see fit! If you change the size of the page in your word processor settings, you can see how many pages your book will be. 3. A book template will be helpful. You can download a template for your book size here. http://www.lulu.com/create/books#templates I can't remember if there are instructions w...

My First Review for Sounds of a Cricket

Image
7/31/2019 Dear Mr. Mathison, When my mum first gave me this book I thought it would be just another boring book. After I  read it I imediatly took my words back. I don't really enjoy poetry but I decided to read it because, well why not. If I do ever decide to read poetry I always choose some of Erin Hanson's works but I also love the poetry that you have included in this book. When I read the first few pages I imediately fell in love. You could almost feel what the author was feeling while writing this and to me that's what all that poetry is about. I also enjoyed how when you first read this you think that its a poem and it's well.. . deep. But then when you are on reading the poems you see that they're all connected in a way, like   the roots of a tree. First you think of the poems as though they are individuals. But they all join together to make a story full of emotion. That's what I love about poems and that's what I found i...

Always Magic translations

Amazon Author Page

Image
Yesterday I had some fun.  In the morning I created 2 book trailers but only posted one of them them to my YouTube channel. Ad #1 is here.    Later I created Author Pages on Amazon's French and German websites. A part of me desired to translate these pages into the language of the site, but I am sure it would have come out as childish gibberish. It might have been fun. Perhaps I shall run Always Magic through, and see what I get.:)    I thank my sister-in-law for purchasing my book.

The Story So Far

Hello,   Thank you for coming back.   "Sounds of a Cricket" is up, and for sale at www.amazon.ca/dp/1999442601, in both paperback and ebook versions.     My final, final ebook version is done, and I'll be uploading that soon. In this version, I've gone through and eliminated a bunch of formatting code, using CSS. That should make the download smaller.   I am 5 short stories away from having "I'll Try Anything Once" fully edited. After that, the read through to see if it sounds as good as it reads.    As I said before, "Sounds of a Cricket" is out, but the sales are lagging. Now I have to teach myself how to market my book. 😣
